Bull huss
Scyliorhinus stellaris · Sharks and dogfish
Also called huss, greater spotted dogfish, nursehound

A large, stocky catshark, also called nursehound, found from Shetland to Cornwall. Anglers catch it over rough, rocky ground and weed.[1]
How to recognise it
- Stocky and bigger than lesser spotted dogfish, creamy brown with fewer, larger dark spots and sometimes white ones.[2]
- The nasal flaps are small and well separated, and the grooves do not reach the mouth. Lesser spotted dogfish have grooves running to the mouth.[1]
- Anything over about 5lb is almost certainly a bull huss. It can reach 20lb.[3]
