Lesser spotted dogfish
Scyliorhinus canicula · Sharks and dogfish
Also called dogfish, lsd, doggie, rough hound

A small, slim, spotty catshark found on all British and Irish coasts, often over sand and mud. Anglers meet it on almost any bottom-fishing mark.[1]
How to recognise it
- Small and slim, sandy brown to greyish with many small dark spots, and a cream underside.[2]
- The nasal furrows run all the way to the mouth. In bull huss they stop short, so check the nose.[3]
- Many small spots, where bull huss has fewer, larger ones. Anything over about 5lb is almost certainly a bull huss.[3]
